The PIER-T™ is a rugged handheld device that allows the operator to both enroll and identify individuals using the highly unique patterns and textures of the human iris. The device is designed to operate while tethered to a host PC or laptop.

The PIER-T™ includes state-of the- art lenses, a high-resolution video sensor, dual band illumination, and a bright LCD screen to capture and process the detailed information contained in an individual’s iris.

The PIER-T™ performs an extensive image quality check and then forwards exceptionally high quality images to the host PC for conversion into iris templates using the industry leading Daugman 2Pi algorithm. The template can be linked with an individual’s biographic data. The template and the biographic data form a record for the individual which is entered into a database completing the individual’s “enrollment”.

The “identification” process is accomplished in the same fashion as an enrollment. A subject’s iris image is captured by the PIER-T™, converted into an iris template by the host, and compared against the existing iris template database resulting in the quick and accurate identification of the subject.
