OFFICE
OF THE SHERIFF MONTEREY
COUNTY
Salinas, CA, January
23, 2006– Sheriff
Kanalakis is pleased to announce the addition of iris scan
technology at the Monterey County Jail. To
address prior incidents of inmate changing identity and human
error in the release of inmates, Sheriff Kanalakis has approved
the purchase of hardware and software from SecuriMetrics.
The Monterey County Sheriff's office is the first agency in the state
to utilize this new technology.
SecuriMetrics, Inc., of Martinez, CA.,
is a multi-modal biometric technology company. Their
software, OFFENDER-ID, is an advanced inmate identification
management system incorporating state-of-the-art biometric
technology.
The technology will allow the Sheriff’s Office to
enroll and identify inmates using advanced iris scanning
technology and build a biometric database of current and
former inmates. The technology will be used to positively
identify inmates prior to their release from jail and identify
incoming inmates who have previously had their iris scans
entered into the database.
Employees of the Sheriff’s Office have been trained
in the use of the equipment and all current inmates of the
Jail have been scanned into the database.
Funds to purchase the system in the amount
of $32,340.00 came from a Technology Rebate.
