SecuriMetrics, Inc. Receives $4.4 Million in Follow-on Orders for Iris Identification Technology from US Department of Defense

MARTINEZ, CA, Dec. 22, 2005 – SecuriMetrics, Inc., a world leader in iris and multi-modal biometric identification technologies, today announced that it received follow-on purchase orders for, and completed delivery of, 1,025 PIER 2.3™ devices to the US Department of Defense and a DOD contractor.  These orders bring the total number of deployed PIERs™ to over 1,800.  The devices have been delivered to the Battle Lab at Ft. Huachuca, Arizona.  The aggregate value of the follow-on orders is approximately $4.4 million.

The DOD is deploying SecuriMetrics’ iris identification devices as part of the Biometric Automated Toolset (BAT) System throughout Iraq, Afghanistan and other areas of conflict.  BAT is used for collecting, cataloguing, storing, and transmitting biographic data from detainees, including enemy combatants, enemy prisoners of war, and civilian internees ("red force personnel") in the CENTCOM AO for "several classified and unclassified databases" shared among intelligence, law enforcement and border control agencies. The BAT system uses a rugged laptop and its attached peripherals (PIER™ iris scanner, fingerprint scanner, and digital camera) to "register" detainees.

The PIER 2.3™ device functions as a fast and accurate biometric enrollment and recognition tool using state of the art iris scanning.  Weighing about 16 ounces, the PIER 2.3™ is a rugged hand-held device capable of storing up to 200,000 iris templates onboard and can operate untethered to a host computer.  Connected to the BAT system, the PIER 2.3™ can match iris templates against a virtually unlimited sized database with extreme speed and accuracy.

"The continued expansion of our business relationship with our DOD customers reflects the positive impact our technology is having on these deployments," said Greg Peterson, SecuriMetrics’ CEO. "We appreciate the DOD’s commitment to biometric technology and SecuriMetrics' products and look forward to them capitalizing on the many recent advances SecuriMetrics has made in iris and multi-modal identification technology."
