For Immediate Release
MARTINEZ, CA, February
15, 2005 – SecuriMetrics, Inc.,
a world leader in iris and multi-modal biometric identification
technologies, today announced that it received a contract
from the US Government to develop the world’s first
full function iris, fingerprint and facial recognition device in a single
hand-held unit. The device will be identified
as the “HIIDE”; short for Hand-held, Interagency,
Identity Detection Equipment. The HIIDE will
allow users to enroll and identify/verify individuals with the three
dominant biometrics, as well as related biographical data,
while tethered or untethered to a host PC.
The contract is sponsored by the
US Department of Defense and various other government agencies and
is valued at approximately $4.7 million.
"We are pleased that the US Government again chose
SecuriMetrics as the innovator and provider of these advanced
biometric devices," said Greg Peterson, SecuriMetrics’ CEO. "These
customers understand our commitment to leading the market
with unprecedented biometric technologies. We are certain
that the HIIDE will set a new biometric device standard in
terms of combined functionality and portability.”
This contract follows the DOD’s highly successful
deployment of thousands of SecuriMetrics’ PIER 2.3
(Portable Iris Enrollment & Recognition) devices in Iraq,
Afghanistan and other areas of conflict. Weighing about
16 ounces, the PIER 2.3™ device functions as a fast
and accurate biometric enrollment and recognition tool using
state of the art iris identification. As with the PIER device,
when the HIIDE is available, it will be integrated into the DOD’s Biometric
Automated Toolset (BAT) system.
BAT is used for collecting,
cataloguing, storing, and transmitting biographic data from
detainees, including enemy combatants, enemy prisoners of
war, and civilian internees ("red force personnel")
in the CENTCOM AO for "several classified and unclassified
databases" shared among intelligence, law enforcement
and border control agencies.
SecuriMetrics,
Inc. is a biometric security solutions provider and a world
leader in the technology of iris and multi-modal identification
and recognition. Identification using
the iris is widely recognized as the fastest, most accurate
and scalable of all biometric technologies. The
Company’s proprietary products have achieved significant
adoption by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), various
U.S. Intelligence agencies and in the corrections/law enforcement
marketplaces.
SecuriMetrics markets hardware,
software and professional development services that enable
its customers to create biometric databases and subsequently
identify subjects with extreme speed and accuracy. As
of December 2005, the Company has over 1,800 of its flagship
PIER™ devices deployed throughout Iraq, Afghanistan,
Pakistan, Cuba, Bosnia and other areas of conflict. US detention centers in Iraq and Afghanistan use this
device to manage detainees. In addition,
the technology is used to secure physical assets (such as buildings
and bases), provide positive inmate identification and screen
for insurgents against “watch lists.”
